Freedom Works and You!
Each month the folks from Freedom Works join us at the Center for
movies and to socialize with us.
We like to provide an activity for them 1 or 2 times a month,
and need your help. We need
ideas for activities and a few more volunteers to help with these
activities. Not a huge time commitment just a couple of hours each
month. Please give Shirley Fletcher a call at 810-229-5673 with
ideas and/or to volunteer
time. We have fun with our
special
friends! Thanks to all those
who gave their time last year
HELP STOP SENIOR HUNGER DRIVE
At least 1 in 9 seniors
is at-risk of going hungry due to their inability to obtain
sufficient food for their household or having to choose between food
and medical care or RX’s.
Comfort Keepers Home
Care has asked several senior centers, assisted living centers, and
VG’s to help out!
A shopping list of what is needed is available at the office.
There will be a food collection box outside my door.
All you need to do is
bring in one canned good per week. We can all afford that!
The food will be distributed through Gleaners and Meals on Wheels.
This is a wonderful
opportunity to help needy seniors right here in our own community.
Thank you for remembering them!
Bullying – It is not just about Kids
Many people think that
“bullying behavior” is just a childhood problem but bullying happens
every day in the workplace, the community and even at senior
centers.
Bullying is not something that will or should be tolerated at the
Hartland Senior Center.
Examples of bullying:
- Unsolicited criticism
- Treating someone
different than the rest of the group
- Swearing at someone
- Exclusion or social
isolation
- Being shouted at or
humiliated
It is important that we
all examine our behavior to determine if our treatment of another
person could be viewed as bullying.
Sometimes we say things that are not intended to be hurtful but are
perceived as hurtful by the listener.
This is good time of year to be sensitive to the feelings of others.
Driving
for Seniors Who Can't
Our drivers are on the road Monday – Friday driving
seniors and handicapped individuals to medical appointments,
therapy, grocery stores, pharmacies and to the Center.
This program is made possible with a grant from Michigan Department
of Transportation, Livingston County United Way, Hartland, Tyrone,
Deerfield townships, Hartland Consolidated Schools and fees
collected from our riders.

for more information or to arrange a ride. You must live in
our service area which includes the Hartland School District and Tyrone,

Veteran's Transportation Service
VTS is a service that provides convenient,
courteous shuttle transportation to Veterans lining in Livingston
County to the V.A. Hospital in Ann Arbor. The program reaches
out to Veterans who live in remote areas or those underserved,
The vehicle picks up passengers at the Hartland Meijer's, V.G.s in
Howell and the Brighton Meijer's . If you need more
