From the Director’s Desk:
Veterans Transportation Service
The VA is currently providing transportation from Livingston County to the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. They are picking up veterans at the VG's in Howell and the Meijers store in Brighton. They have dropped the Hartland pick-up. County Commissioner, Dave Domas and I are trying to have the Hartland pick-up reinstated. The bus originates in the Flint area. We believe that the bus should travel down M-59 on the way to Howell and make a stop at the Senior Center. If you need a ride to the VA Hospital you may call 734-222-7145. But please call us at 810-626-2135 to let us know if you might be interested in using this service. The VA would like to know how many people from the Hartland, Tyrone and Deerfield area are interested in this service.
Rosemarie Kleiner who has volunteered for many years at the Hartland Senior Center is retiring from her position as from desk receptionist. Rosemarie has been the friendly face you see on Tuesdays. She has decided she wanted to spend more time with husband Joe, and traveling the country to visit her children and grandchildren.. She will be missed by many people. I know we wish her well and many hours of happiness with her family.
We want to welcome Sheila Brown who will become our new office volunteer. I would like to say at this time how much I appreciate all five of these women who work very hard handling our desk, phones, registrations and a variety of other duties. You might want to thank them for their help when you get the chance.
We had very busy and wonderful holidays around here. I want to thank Patrice Heath and her Elves and Reindeer and Santa for entertaining the nursery school children who meet in our building. The Children had a great time and were able to "shop" for gifts for their mothers because of your donations.
Don't Forget Your 2012 Dues
Thank you to the 600 members who have already paid their dues for the upcoming year. Your dues keep you on our mailing list and they show your support for the many services and activities that are provided by the Hartland Senior Center.
Dues remain the same this year - $15.00 for singles and $20.00 for married couples.
I also want to thank Shirley Fletcher and her committee who provided holiday crafts for our group of special folks who visit the center from Freedom Works.
Budget matters take up a lot of my time and I think it is important to explain our budget to our members from time to time. We receive less than half of our funding from local, state and federal taxes. The rest of our funds need to be generated through fundraisers, class fees, local donations and activity fees. United Way dollars, and membership dues. We appreciate all that our members and the local community do for us but funding our $190.000 budget is always a challenge. Thank you for your help and contributions. If you have any questions regarding budget matters I will be happy to address them.
